Critical Incidents – The Front-line Perspective

What constitutes a critical incident? How does the average person respond to critical events? Why do some people respond with little or no impact while other responses are exaggerated and intrusive? To be prepared for critical events, we need to understand who we are and why we respond the way we do. The best defense is knowledge. This course helps you understand normal responses and what you can do personally to respond in the right way as opposed to the instinctive way.

Mental Health Preparation

Why is there value to mental health treatment? Do I need to have something wrong to receive treatment? What are the goals of a fully developed person who is both mentally strong and able to react with confidence to even the most difficult and challenging situations? Treatment of our mental health is as valuable as regular yearly physicals.

By understanding the basic responses we have as individuals to difficult situations, we are better prepared when major critical incidents occur.  Our mental state and physical state affect one another. When we are mentally weak, we cannot be at our best. Just as when we are physically weak, we don’t have the confidence to be our full selves.
